The windsurfing lifestyle

By taking the commitment to a sport like windsurfing, you are also accepting the lifestyle that comes with it. So is that good or bad? Well, after being in the “business” for more than 10 years, I have no doubt that I would not be where I am today without the inspiration from the people i have met on my journey.

Being different
Being raised halfway in Iran and halfway in Denmark, you would not exactly see me getting into a sport like windsurfing, and especially not with such a special culture which comes with it. When I left my football team to start up windsurfing when I was a kid, I saw quite a few surprised faces, and not the biggest support. Back then I thought i was just going through a phase in my life where I felt like being different than the other kids in town. After a couple of years I came to the conclusion, that this was not the case. The decision I took back then turned out to be a promise to myself, that with the right amount of effort and the right spirit, I could become something in this sport.

The ALL-IN type
By this time I was so hooked on the sport, that I was ready to get into it with everything that I had. This “All-in” attitude is something that I still find within myself after 13 years of windsurfing, and I am proud to be able to say that I am amongst the best the best in my country and worldwide at what I do, just because I have dared to be dead honest to myself, jump out into the unknown and live my dreams as the reward. So what is it for a “Set-up” that I am trying to sell? What message am I as a windsurfer trying to spread around the globe? And can you as a windsurfing beach bum be serious in any other places than out in the water?

Dario or Dude?
What I am trying to say, is that I am perfectly happy with the lifestyle I am living today. Having said that, if you wish to succeed in a world like this, there is also lots of hard work involved which requires you to show yourself from the most professional side. To travel the globe and spend your time in your boardshorts, is the reward you get, when you have proven to yourself and the outside world that you have worked hard and seriously to reach your dreams. To live this lifestyle requires you to be adventurous, to dare walking the unknown path and to dare “vanishing” from the face of the earth for a little while to seek out new experiences.

If you continue down this path, you will quickly realize that you have established your own network of great contacts, friends and awesome persons across continents and cultures.

Therefore i represent Action, Adventure, Drive and Openness:

Action, when you are missing just that final courage.
Adventure, when you set out to explore greater and more beautiful places.
Drive, when you just HAVE to cross that finish line in first.
Opennness, towards our human differences and cultures.

Four words which I attach myself to, wether I am at a competition, arranging an event or simply when I am out in town with my friends.
